Lowell, I think each of the concerns you mention are valid. Whether or not there will be any kind of public objection to it will be another thing. Australia really needs a constitutional amendment that protects free speech on the internet. – maybe SL is the place to start that movement.

Hmm. Our copyright laws aren't quite in sync. The US has the copyright law as legislated — but that is modified and adapted by a large number of specific precedents. Under the US FTA we have the law as legislated, absent the modifying precedents. That's actually quite a broad divergence as at the current date.

The intro statement isn't entirely true. Under the Australian US FTA our copyright laws are in sync (we had to comply with US law). Just a shame we didn't pick up the freedom side at the same time
